Expertise: Cultural Studies and Critical Studies, Bodies and Spaces, and Contemporary Literature and Film

Prior to being hired by the University of A Coruña (English Studies), Eduardo Barros Grela was a professor at the University of New York (1998-2002), at the California State University (2003-2007), and a Visiting Guest Professor at Claremont Colleges, California (1999 and 2000). He was also a Research Assistant at the Humanities Institute of New York (2002-2003), and a Guest Researcher at the Institute of European Studies at the University of California, Berkeley (2010-2011).

Author of more than sixty chapters and articles, he has been editor of several collections, and editor of three academic journals.  He has completed three collections of essays: one on Irish Cultural Studies, another one on Popular Culture and Cultural Studies, and another on American Secrets. He is currently finishing a manuscript on Irish film.

He was Head of the Section of English Studies (2017-2019), and during the period 2014-2017 he acted as Secretary in the former Department of English Studies. He is currently Director of the Observatory of Society and Alternative Narratives in Cultural Studies (CSSAN-UDC), a permanent research seminar on Critical & Cultural Theory, Alternative Narratives and Society, and Coordinator of the Research Group Irish Studies “Amergin”.
