InFINIS. Migrations and Transcultural Identities analyses several of the most relevant social and cultural aspects of contemporary society, both from a theoretical point of view and in its representation in literary, artistic and media manifestations.
The objectives of this journal address one of the most immediate and urgent challenges of our diverse contemporary society (as described in the State Plan for Scientific and Technical Research and Innovation 2017-2020: “6. Social sciences and humanities and science with and for society”), as it focuses on the study of contemporary migrations and post-migratory settlements, as well as their representation in literature. The journal proposes a transcultural approach to the analysis of these issues, which favours and promotes dialogue and coexistence without ignoring the complexity, the difficulties, and conflicts of culturally diverse contemporary societies.
The space that this journal aims to cover is not specifically represented by any other periodical publication at the state level. Although there are academic journals that study migration processes, such as the Revista Internacional de Estudios Migratorios of the University of Almeria, or Migraciones of the Instituto Universitario de Estudios sobre Migraciones (Universidad Pontificia Comillas), our publication addresses from a transcultural viewpoint the representation of those migratory processes in literature and audiovisual media.
Objectives of the journal and future expectations
The journal InFINIS. Migrations and Transcultural Identities aims to become a benchmark in the field of English Studies, both in the Humanities and Social Sciences. The editorial team’s intention is to meticulously adhere to the format, content, and scientific criteria required for inclusion in databases, indexes, and search engines for abstracts and keywords.
The purpose is for the journal to occupy a research space that explores migratory movements from a literary and socio-cultural perspective, offering an analytical and critical examination of identity policies. This approach will attract scholars of contemporary literature reflecting these movements on all continents, making its scope significant, and our expectation is that it will establish itself as a prestigious serial”
The editor of the journal undertakes to establish a system of external double-blind peer review, consisting of sending each proposed article to no less than two external reviewers (who are part of the Scientific Committee or from external universities of recognised prestige).
The following protocol will be established:
All proposals for publication will be submitted to an anonymous evaluation process with the following procedure:
The Editorial Committee will check that each proposal complies with the format and content requirements established (and made public) by the journal. The author will then be notified of a written confirmation including the following information:
-Recommendations for changes in the thematic orientation, if any,
-Maximum timeframe needed for the evaluation of the potential article.
-Information that the proposal must include all the required elements before being sent for peer reviews, as well as the necessary documents to initiate the publication process (abstract, complete academic information of the author, and keywords, among others).
The editors will send an anonymous copy of the proposal to two reviewers, who will also receive the link to the proposed evaluation form (in Forms) and the evaluation criteria to be followed. One of the reviewers will be external to the journal’s Editorial Committee. The reviewers must send their reports within a maximum of 2 months. In the case of significant discrepancies between the two reviewers, the editors, or a third reviewer selected by the editors, may determine whether the final report is positive or negative. In this case, the deadline may be extended by up to one month.
Within the deadline, each reviewer will submit his or her review report to the editors.
Evaluators may refuse to evaluate a proposal on the grounds of ethical or moral considerations, or on the grounds of a specific situation or interest that could lead to an unbiased evaluation. In this case, they must notify the editor of the alleged cause.
Based on the journal’s evaluation criteria, the evaluation result may be:
-Accepted: the manuscript meets the quality criteria and is therefore approved for publication.
-Accepted conditionally: the manuscript generally meets the quality requirements, but in order to be accepted for publication it requires certain corrections and/or modifications, which will be reported in detail.
-Rejected: the manuscript does not meet the quality criteria and is therefore not approved for publication.
Acceptance of a manuscript will always be provisional until the editing phase is completed. The editors of the journal may change this resolution at any stage of the editorial process, provided that reasonable cause is shown.
Once the author has been notified of the resolution (with two detailed reports), and in case of receiving recommendations (corrections and/or modifications) for the publication of the proposal, the author must submit these changes to the editors within a period not exceeding 20 working days.
Manuscripts accepted for publication will be automatically destroyed at the end of the editorial process. Rejected manuscripts, on the other hand, will be properly preserved for one year.
In no case will the editorial process, from the time an article is received until it is finally evaluated for publication, take longer than six months.
The external reviewers of the journal will be selected annually according to criteria of internationalisation and professional training, as well as their area of specialisation.
